Punch-Out!! – Not Your Dad’s Boxing Game

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

If you remember when Mike Tyson was king of the boxing world and not head of the funny farm, then you probably remember Mike Tyson's Punch-out for the NES.  A great game that had you the underdog fighting your way through a varied group of opponents.  Well now many of those opponents have returned to see if you (or your kids) have what it takes to be champion.  Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Punch-out is a blast for solo or competitive play.  Keep your hands up and look for openings....otherwise you'll be saying "I coulda been a contenda!"

Wii MotionPlus

So what's the big deal about this new add-on to the Wii remote? Why is everyone so nuts about the Wii MotionPlus? I'll tell you why.  Since the Wii came out, the gameplay has been all about using motion to control the onscreen action.  Well now, the Wii MotionPlus allows gamers to control the action in even greater detail.  Every small movement is now accurately represented by your onscreen counterpart.  This is great for many games, but especially sports games like golf and tennis where a slight change in wrist position can have a huge impact.

Here are the games that the Wii MotionPlus is currently compatible with:

Virtua Tennis 2009
Tiger Wood PGA Tour 2010
Grand Slam Tennis
Wii Sports Resort

Tiger Woods for the Wii is at it again.  In the 2010 version, there are additions like the US Open and a brand new frisbee golf game that can be played on any of the 27 courses in the game.  Tired of chasing the white ball around, then change it to a disc and let it fly.  The inclusion of Tiger Woods Pga tour 2010 wii motion plus bundle allows golfers to have a better feel for their swing than ever before.  Take to the links with Tiger Woods Pga tour 2010 for the wii and see if you can tame this Tiger.

EA Sports Active – Better than Wii Fit?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Electronic Arts jumps into the interactive fitness market with EA Sports Active.  This game and it's accessories allows gamers to get fit and compete with each other at the same time.  EA took notice of the strengths of Wii Fit as well as the weaknesses and created an interactive and competitive fitness game.  There are workouts for the upper body, the lower body, and cardio.  For those that have the Wii Fit Balance Board, you can use that as part of the control scheme as well.  Purchasing the multiplayer pack allows two players to play at one time and compete against each other in different exercises.

Overall, the EA Sports Active bundle is good buy for those looking to get in shape without having to spend hours at the gym.  The 30 day training regiment with daily 20 minute workouts is sure to get your blood pumping.  The fact that exercise difficulty can be changed is an added feature.  The workouts are a combination of exercises that flow from one to the other, unlike the Wii Fit where you had to complete an exercise and then choose another.  If you were a little disappointed in the Wii Fit or are looking for new fitness challenges, be sure to check out EA Sports Active today.
