It may have been more than a year since it came onto the market, but the Nintendo Wii is still causing quite a stir. People are still having a hard time getting their hands on one.

The retail selling price for the basic Nintendo Wii console of $250 makes it by far the cheapest gaming machine on the market. However, actually finding a Wii at this price these days takes a combination of luck, perseverance and ruthlessness. Of course, there are Wii's available easily if you are willing to pay inflated prices. If not, here are some tips to help you get your Wii at retail.

Keep Tabs on Websites

Do your research. Find out the online stores that stock Wii's such as Amazon.com and bookmark them on your browser. Monitor them at least once a day to see if they have a new shipment in. Also, try to get news of when websites are expecting shipments. You will have to be quick here. It is rumored that one recent shipment of Wii's at Amazon sold out in ten minutes.

Check local stores

Using your phone book, locate the stores in your city that sell game consoles such as the Wii. Go to each one and see if there is a clerk or manager who is friendly enough to give you information on shipment schedules. You could hit the jackpot and be ahead of the game with information on the next shipment. If you are lucky enough to get that golden date, be at the store about two hours prior to opening time so you are one of the first in.

Forums and Tracking Sites

Be very vigilant. The search for Wiis has practically become the nation's favorite pastime, you will hear all sorts of rumors, tricks and tips about getting one. Forums and tracker sites are good to keep tabs on but be cautious about taking what you read there as gospel, it could be way off the mark!
